The match was played at home in pleasant and reasonably benign conditions.
First out Nick Poore and Phil Spring battled hard all the way overcoming some indifferent form en route to end up winning 3&2.
Debutantes both , Duncan Gowan and Simon Jackson had to give 5 shots, but no first match nerves were displayed and a 3&1 victory ensued.
The third pair , Colin Mantle and Martin Barnes were the only pair to get any shots - only one - and managed a 2&1 win.
Andy Green and Bill McCollum played in a game of mistakes all round and often found each other in places they do not usually visit. The pressure of giving 5 shots told eventually as they lost 2&1.
The final pair of Glen Crocker and Mike Metcalfe approached the giving of 10 shots with some trepidation. Eventually experience and some outstanding shot making from both enabled them to cruise home comfortably with a 5&4 win.
Thus Wells were victorious by 4-1 and meet Clevedon away in the next round.
